residential revival in a micro district next to Buckingham Palace is making it easier and cheaper to become a close neighbour of the Queen.

The patch around Buckingham Gate, immediately west of the Palace, was an aristocratic enclave in the 18th and 19th centuries but changed character in the 20th century, when blue chip businesses and government ministries moved in.

Rolls-Royce had its headquarters there. Today the site is called Buckingham Green, a new tower of 64 sleek apartments with views of Big Ben and St James’s Park.

Unusually, these bespoke homes are for rent, starting from £725 a week, with underground parking and concierge services. Call JLL on 020 3892 4676.

The Broadway, on the site of what was New Scotland Yard, the Metropolitan Police headquarters, is the neighbourhood’s next high-profile development, comprising six new buildings with 268 flats.

Likely to follow this is development of Transport for London’s listed headquarters above St James’s Park Tube station.

The art deco building featuring prized sculptures by Jacob Epstein and Henry Moore has planning permission for conversion into 89 swish apartment
