Designjunction: this year's London Design Festival sees SmartHouzz and Dyslexia Design launch in Granary Square

1/50

Designjunction, one of the London Design Festival's biggest events, is now in full swing at Granary Square, next to the newly-created King's Cross Creative Quarter.

This major exhibtion brings together more than 200 contemporary brands, all presenting their new collections to interior designers, retailers and design fans over the course of three days.

There are pop-up stalls, design workshops and eight purpose-built monopoly-style houses on display, featuring the latest developments and trends in furniture, technology and lighting.

Houzz, a leading online design forum for home renovation ideas, has launched its SmartHouzz pod in one of the houses.

Inside are stylish solutions to maximise small spaces, through smart design, smart storage and smart technology - including an upright bike rack at the entrance that's a feature in itself, a slimline desk and built-in 'up and over' shelving around the doorframe that really makes the most of dead space.

Victoria Harrison, editor of Houzz UK and Ireland, says, "Space is at a premium in urban living rooms and each piece of furniture has to work extra hard. In the SmartHouzz our sofa transforms into a bed for guests and we've added flexible seating solutions in the form of stools that can be tucked neatly along the wall when not in use."

Other exhibitions to watch out for in the square include Dyslexic Design, where 10 designers are displaying their work and thoughts on the positive effects of living with dyslexia. Must-sees include Tom Raffield's lighting designs, Sari Räthel's rose gold fingertip rings and rainbow vases by Bethan Laura Wood - winner of the festival's 2016 Swarovski Emerging Talent medal. There will be a panel discussion on Saturday September 24 at 5pm. Visit www.thedesignjunction.co.uk.

A ticket admits to the Canopy, with 70 traders selling homewares, fashion, tech and textiles. At Cubitt House over 100 brands are showcasing their newest lines.
