There is a food fight coming as some of the country’s top chefs battle it out at this year’s Slider Decider.

The competition, to be held at The Gun pub, Docklands, on June 4, will see some of the wackiest – and tastiest – sliders pitted against each other to see which emerges victorious.

A shortlist of 16 chefs has been drawn up, including last year’s winner and former MasterChef champion, Tim Anderson.

The Nanban chef took the 2014 crown with his Dalstonburg Disaster creation, a craft-beer inspired slider which also featured Kewpee mayo, gochujang hispi cabbage slaw and locally foraged seasonal nasturtium burger sauce.

Anderson returns for the 2015 competition with a new slider, Wasted Away Again in Umcheeseville, which calls upon a huge variety of ingredients, including a chuck and chicken liver patty basted in nori-shiitake butter and a three-cheese potato korokke with Quaver crust.

There are some equally intriguing creations from other chefs. James Dibb of Dirty Bones will present the Dirty Poker, bringing together a pressed ham hock and charred pepper patty, mustard cream cheese and Coca Cola fluid gel, amongst other ingredients.

A taste of the Caribbean will come courtesy of David Mattias of The Rum Kitchen, whose slider boasts Jamaican dashi brined chicken oysters and pickled callaloo fluid gel.

Jim Abbott, of Hixter Bankside, will douse his slider in the colourfully named Holy F*** mayonnaise.
