An entrepreneur today told how she gave up rubbing shoulders with Beyoncé and Michael Bublé in a top marketing job to launch a chips and sauce business.

Jules Heaton, 42, was marketing and communications director at the O2 and previously worked for Warner Bros, promoting blockbusters including the Dark Knight trilogy of Batman films.

But she decided to give up the six-figure salary in 2014 to launch Saucy Chip, giving the British staple a gourmet makeover.

She toured music festivals including Love Box, Camp Bestival and Secret Garden Party, serving food from a retro Citroen H van. Her chips earned famous fans including Cara Delevingne, Noel Gallagher and Prince Harry.

Now Mrs Heaton, from East Dulwich, has opened the first permanent home for her business, at Jerusalem Bar and Kitchen in Fitzrovia. She said: “I loved my career and had worked on some of the best brands around, but I always wanted to own my own business. It was a bit scary with financial commitments to give up my job, but I have loved every minute of it. To have found a permanent home in London now is brilliant.”

Manchester-born Mrs Heaton, who trained as a barrister and had a top 30 hit as the singer on Nineties rave anthem Don’t Go, is a big food fan. She and her husband Nick even named one of their children Kasper Frederick Claus in homage to fast-food chain KFC. She turned her hand to chips and gravy because she spotted an opportunity to turn the “Northern delicacy” into a hit down south.

She said: “Done well like we do it, it is absolutely delicious and packed with flavour. The food is of the highest quality.”

Her signature Rock’n’Roll chips are smothered in 24-hour-steeped beef gravy topped with Red Leicester and Cheddar cheese. Other toppings include katsu curry or basil pesto.

The restaurant, which also has hot dogs and truffle burgers on the menu, offers a trolley for diners containing 70 sauces “sourced” from around the world, from Belize to South Africa.

Saucy Chip will be trading at the Night Market in Perks Field, Kensington, from June 7 to 18 as part of the Evening Standard’s London Food Month.
