Popping bottles is one thing, but champagne is so much better with the promise of fantastic food to come.

There are few better ways to ring in 2018 than still full from one of the best meals of 2017. These restaurants are planning some on the capital’s best New Year’s Eve extravaganzas, so don’t miss out…

Hoppers

Hoppers are going back to their roots with a Sri Lankan masquerade parties at both their Soho and St Christopher’s Place locations – they bring the masks, you just bring the good vibes. For just £40 for early seating and £50 for later, enjoy a six course meal featuring ox cheek rolls, a stone fish biryani and, of course, a hopper (the Sri Lankan pancake after which the restaurant is named). Who needs Auld Lang Syne when you can dance the night away to baila?

The Palomar

New Year’s Eve is all about hope and dreams. On the 31st, The Palomar are making dreams come true – you can actually reserve a table at the restaurant. The restaurant that brought a taste of Jerusalem to London will be putting on a £65 menu which will include a selection of classic dishes from the Palomar menu.

The Dairy

Dublin-born Robin Gill will be serving up an eight course extravaganza at his Clapham restaurant on the big night. For £75 per person, diners can get more than a taste of Gill signature British cooking with a Scandinavian touch with dishes including a bone marrow agnolotti with winter truffle and wild mushrooms and a main of fallow deer, roast Jerusalem artichoke and charred greens. All with a glass of Akarua Rosé Brut, of course.

Mews of Mayfair

See in 2018 at this plush Mayfair brasserie tucked away in picturesque Lancashire Court. Enjoy a set menu with option including hand-dived scallops, shorthorn fillet steak, a decadent surf ‘n’ turf platter, and a dark chocolate mousse with hazelnut ice cream. Either join from 6pm at £45 per person, or attend the second sitting at 9pm for £55 per person. Later on, head downstairs for a drink in the Lounge Bar, where DJs will spin floor-fillers until the early hours of the morning.

The Manor

Just down the road from The Dairy is Gill’s second Clapham restaurant The Manor. The name may suggest a grand upgrade to the former site, but you wouldn’t think so if you’re looking to make The Manor your New Year’s Eve venue: for £65, you can scoop up 10 courses of Gill’s fabulous food – that’s two more courses than at The Dairy for £10 less.

The Jugged Hare

The Jugged Hare, Barbican 

If you’re a regular of The Jugged Hare, then you’ll love the theme of their New Year’s Eve meal. The foodie pub will be celebrating their biggest hits of 2017 in their 5 course meal, featuring signature dishes including a haggis stuffed trotter with crackling and pickled girolles from their Burns Night menu, and a roast hanger steak with braised tail, celeriac and roast shallot. Each of the five courses comes with a paired glass of wine, all for just £75.

Bunga Bunga Battersea

Things tend to get a little wild in this corner of Battersea. The Italian pizza restaurant is having a very festive festa to mark the new year, with a Venetian Ball happening across their restaurant and upstairs nightclub. For £85, you get a Grey Goose cocktail, 6 course feasting menu, karaoke, live entertainment and tickets to their club night which parties on until 3am. Che bello!

Gymkhana

Spice up your New Year’s Eve shindig at Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Gymkhana who are laying on a special set menu for the occasion. For £90 for the early sitting and £110 for later, feast on a 6 course meal featuring a renowned dish of kid goat methi keema and ajwaini Scallops with mooli sabzi (stir fried radish) & achar (spiced pickles). If you want to really push the boat out, you can add a wine pairing menu for either £65 or £95 for the "Prestige" incarnation.

Spring

Spring into 2018 at Skye Gyngell’s much lauded Somerset House restaurant, where New Year’s Eve is as much about location as it is the food. The menu on the evening of the 31st is unchanged from the regular a la carte, but getting a table on the night comes with a perk: for an extra £40, guests can get a ticket to the restaurant’s terrace for a glass of champagne after dinner, a spot which sports spectacular views of London’s riverside fireworks.

Berners Tavern

Jason Atherton is throwing quite the party at Berners Tavern, his restaurant at the London EDITION hotel. Under the gaze of the floor-to-ceiling frame covered walls, diners can tuck into dishes of slow cooked Forman’s London Cure salmon with foie gras, Highland venison Wellington with all the trimmings and a chocolate and hazelnut flaming Alaska, food to be enjoyed with a Champagne cocktail. Head down for the early sitting to pick it all up for £100, or get there late into the evening for £185.

St. John

St John’s food is what winter nights are all about and, as you can expect, the Michelin-starred restaurant is yet again opening its doors for a New Year’s feast. Start of the evening with a Champagne reception with snacks of roast bone marrow and parsley salad and swede cake with pickled walnuts, before digging into a hearty spread of pig’s head and potato pie, smoked eel with pickles prunes and horseradish, and a rum and raising parfait all for £155 per head.

Sexy Fish

Nowhere does a party with quite so much glitz as Sexy Fish. This year, the restaurant’s glamour is getting a time warp: Sexy Fish is throwing a Sexy Disco. Studio 54 comes to Mayfair at the Asian-inspired restaurant, so grab your platform shoes and that lame jumpsuit (you knew you bought that for a reason) and get ready for a little boogie with your dinner. For £295 you can indulge in a nine course meal with a glass of Perrier-Jouet Blanc de Blancs, and watch live performances throughout the night. If this is a little steep for you, bar tickets are a relative steal at £50.

Hutong

London sports a pretty incredible skyline at the best of times, but add a firework or 500 and New Year’s Eve makes for a pretty spectacular time to have one of the best views in the capital. Head to the 33rd floor of the Shard, where high-end Chinese restaurant Hutong is joining the festivities in spectacular style. For £345 (you might want to start saving) you can enjoy a five course meal – featuring a selection of their famed dim sum, deep fried lobster and roasted Peking duck – with half a bottle of Vevue Cliquot per person, watch live entertainment before heading down to Aqua Shard after midnight to party until 3.30am against the backdrop of London’s glistening skyline.

Hotel Café Royal

Hotel Café Royal are really making a night of it. You can enjoy a 6 course dinner at the Domino restaurant for £195 per person, with duck liver parfait, rotisserie partridge and a Laurent-Perrier champagne sorbet and more, or opt for a more casual affair at the Ten Room restaurant for £85. If you feel like sticking around for a little longer, the hotel is offering a package including an overnight stay, dinner at the Domino, a full English Breakfast and access to the spa, all for £888 for two people. What a way to start 2018…
