The plant-based burger chain backed by F1 star Lewis Hamilton is to rapidly expand its offering across London by the end of this year.

Neat Burger – which presently has three sites in London, and this week announced a fourth in Canary Wharf – has confirmed that it hopes to launch an additional seven sites across the city, with a further 20 dark kitchens offering delivery-only to follow.

The new sites will include venues in Ealing, Victoria, Bishopsgate, Finsbury Park, on the King’s Road and at “two major shopping centres” which are yet to be confirmed. Each will be a roll-out of the Neat formula, which offers a vegan take on classic American fast food. A more substantial UK launch is thought to be in the works.

“A few years ago, most people would not have been that into the idea of a plant-based burger restaurant, and restaurants had one option on the menu to cater for the vegetarians,” said Neat director Zack Bish of the company’s plans. “The fact that there is now such a high demand for a totally plant based offering is really encouraging and exciting to us. Even meat-eaters are going out of their way to choose plant-based options as the awareness of the effect it has on the world grows and grows.

“A lot of operators are nervous about a post-Covid world, and everything ‘going remote’, but we think people are excited about getting out and eating together again.”

Neat burger, who plant a tree for every burger they sell, launched in London in September 2019 with a site on Regent Street and substantial publicity owing to the Hamilton connection. The driver partnered with Beyond Meat’s Tommaso Chiabra, also a co-founder of Unicef Next Generation scheme, for the project.
