London brunch breakdown: Brew, Clapham

Eggs, sourdough and accommodating service are all on the menu at Brew, finds David Ellis
How do you like theirs?: Brew make the most of brunch staple eggs

What's on the menu? Eggs, eggs and more eggs: eggs folded, eggs soft-boiled, poached, served up Turkish style, eggs royale and eggs benedict, in a melt with ham, gruyere, tomatoes and pesto, eggs... well, you get the idea. If eggs are your brunch must, Brew is your place. See also: sourdough, which is everywhere. Perhaps it was a bit kneady (not sorry).

Otherwise, they cover most brunch favourites, with avocado, granola and bacon taking supporting roles across the menu. Fried mushrooms here are deliciously buttery. For anyone wanting something more, there’s a range of burgers, including shredded duck.

Juices are fresh and excellent: the mint cooler (cucumber, fresh mint and apple) is a must. Coffees come strong enough for any Saturday morning and the milkshakes, served in a full size milk-bottle, are nostalgia-inducingly good. I recommend one with every course.

Where is it? Give yourself enough time for the pleasant stroll across Clapham Common and you’ll come to Northcote Road, a magnet for the kind of envy-inducing parents who appear to have gotten younger and less tired since having children, and the other Clapham set, all glamour and hangovers. Around halfway down sits a very busy but very accommodating Brew.

Who's behind it? Jason Wells, who owns the four Brew sites across south London. You might recognise the name.

When can I try it? The cafe is open throughout the week, 8am - 10pm.

Cheque out: All dishes £7- 13, mains £9 - 13, sides £3 -5 or two for £7 with any mains. Puddings £4 - 6. Juices, smoothies, milkshakes, wine by the glass, beer, all £5.
