Fay Maschler's week in food from Sofra to the Draper's Arms

Hotel heaven: Eggs Benedict Florentine-style, at the Lygon Arms
Fay Maschler3 October 2018

Sofra in Shepherd Market is a favourite for after-Curzon Mayfair movies. My passion for Nureyev stays undiminished despite some clunkiness in the eponymous film. Sofra’s tender lamb brochette pirouettes nicely.

Hotel breakfasts can be such heaven. Eggs Benedict Florentine-style at The Lygon Arms in Broadway, Worcestershire, start Thursday with a smile.

Delicious kaya toast ice cream made by Elizabeth Haigh for Too Many Chefs at The Draper’s Arms in aid of Action Against Hunger. I wait impatiently for her restaurant Shibui.

Introducing my friend Barbara from Toronto to Bengali cooking, we try among other dishes tok jhaal chicken methe (chicken liver) at Little Kolkata, possibly the most inept restaurant I’ve ever visited.

At home a purposely simple supper of salad of avocado and John Hurd’s minerally organic large-leaf watercress. With Beth’s inimitable vinaigrette.
