The Piano Works to reopen in September with 'whole-body sanitising system'

Staying safe: The Piano Works will use antibacterial mist to maintain Covid-19 regulations

Nights out are set to look a little different for some, as two London venues have announced plans to open with whole-body sanitising sprays in place.

The Piano Works music bars in Farringdon and the West End will open in September with strict Covid-19 regulations, including a Gateway Personal Protection Tunnel (PPT). They will be the first places in the UK to operate such a system.

Guests will enter through a gate which covers them head-to-toe in an antiviral dry mist, which the venue says: "reduces the risk of transmission by deactivating any virus particles that are present on clothes or exposed skin."

Punters will also have their temperature checked with a thermal imaging camera, before having their IDs checked and their details added to the track and trace app.

Inside, markers will be placed on the dance floor, which the Piano Works hope will help maintain one metre social distancing by stopping dancers from getting too close to each other. The musicians themselves will still perform live, but from behind perspex screens.

Both bars will then be sanitised at the end of each night with a PuriFog machine, which is said to be more than 1700 times more effective at sanitising than a usual spray system.

Tristan Moffat, operations director for The Piano Works, says: “We need to reassure our guests that we are doing all that we can to keep them safe. We’re hopeful that by taking each and every precaution we can, that we will instil trust in our customers and vice versa.

"It’s amazing how a bit of trust can go a long way. These safety measures have not been seen combined in the UK before and we believe that using the best technology available will help our guests enjoy our great musicians perform once again.”

It comes as sections of the hospitality industry opened up earlier this month, with pubs, restaurants and cinemas welcoming back guests as lockdown measures were eased.
