The Falcon is back to its gleaming best

Well-preserved: The Falcon is a handy meeting place
10 April 2012

The Falcon is a huge, busy pub next to Clapham Junction. It has one of the longest bars in London and a well-preserved old style decor, now back to its gleaming best after a recent relaunch as a Nicholson's pub.

The refit has seen the pool table and all of the TV screens cleared from the pub, to be replaced by more seating, a wider array of drinks and, we feel, a more comfortable atmosphere.

Given the size of the place the staff are often under pressure, but on our visit, seemed to be coping well.

Handy as a meeting place near Clapham Junction, its hectic atmosphere means it's always been the sort of place more suited to a Saturday evening's drinking rather than a Sunday afternoon's.

Pub lore holds that a pub so close to such a large train station simply can't be a decent place for a drink: The Falcon disproves the theory.
