Smith's Cocktail Bar - review

Hammersmith gets a Gatsby-esque cocktail bar with decent drinks that's a good bet for a party, says Susannah Butter
18 April 2013

The buzz: A proper cocktail bar for Hammersmith. Hidden down in the basement of the Brook Green Hotel, this drinking hole has an extensive drinks menu, as well as a resident mixologist.

The deal: With velvet chaise longues, trumpets displayed on the walls, and low-hanging bulbs over the tables, this dimly lit bar has a Prohibition era feel, perfect for getting in the mood to watch The Great Gatsby in May. Cocktails are good, and all under £10. The vegetarian food platter was disappointing - but then you wouldn’t come here to eat.

Good for: Parties. The menu has a drink to suit everyone, there’s a resident DJ and plenty of dark corners.

Order: If you want something that’s refreshing but has a kick get the elderflower and ginger Martini.

By the way: If you don’t want to go home head upstairs to the Brook Green Hotel, which has recently had a beautiful refurbishment.
