Peckham Springs - bar review

Cheap-as-chips cocktails in a cool art gallery space at Peckham Rye
Kate Lough20 February 2014

The buzz: Part-gallery, part-bar, you'll find Peckham Springs — yes, the name is inspired by Del Boy's infamous back garden water business — in the shadow of Peckham Rye Station, under the arches by Bar Story. It started as a summer pop-up but is now staying open all year round on Fridays and Saturdays.

The deal: Possibly the best-value cocktails in the whole of the big smoke — a lengthy list of strong, well-made drinks at a gob-smacking £6. If that wasn't cheap enough, they're half price at happy hour (from 6-7pm), so I quaffed a textbook Aperol Spritz seemingly charged with half a bottle of prosecco for a bargainous £3. Other options include a mango daiquiri, expresso martini and various sours.

Good for: Pre-drinking with a cool, arty crowd before heading on to Peckham hangout the Bussey Building.

Order: The house cocktail, Peckham Springwater: Bombay Sapphire and elderflower, stirred with lime wedges, tonic and mint. Sounds ladylike but it's lethal.

By the way: There's always a street-food van parked up to keep you well-fed. We had a super tasty Ghanaian chicken wrap from Zoe's, but Fleisch Mob and Burger Bear are next up on the rota.
