London's best new wine bars

The London wine revolution shows no signs of stopping, with new wine bars opening up left, right and centre. We've enlisted wine expert Ruth Spivey to pick her favourite new vinous venues in town

Ruth Spivey set up the capital's first wine-tasting car boot sale and our favourite mobile wine bar, Street Vin Wine, which is currently squatting at Street Feast's Hawker House. Her pop-up has a little list to accompany your street food choices which includes English sparkling Lambrusco alongside red, white and rose.

Here are Ruth's favourite new London wine bars:

8 Hoxton Square

The little sister of 10 Greek Street has just opened on the old Master & Servant site, with a great list of wines, small plates and low mark-ups. Go for the venison tartare and a glass of the Valpolicella.

If you're not sure what to order at this newish Fitzrovia wine bar, the lovely owner David will happily give you advice. There's a strong reserve list of older odd bottles and plenty to snack on such as slow roasted San Marzano field tomatoes and Fourme d'Ambert on toast.

124 Cleveland Street, W1T 6PG, theremedylondon.com

Recently opened in Seven Dials, CVS is the new vinous offering from the Experimental Group who run the Experimental Cocktail Club in Chinatown. It has sexy decor, 400-plus regularly changing bins and delicious little plates to pair them with, and an excellent on-hand sommelier, Julia.

Vinoteca Chiswick

Vinoteca has made a name for itself creating wonderfully reliable wine bars around central London — Soho, Marylebone and Farringdon — and now it's also operating out of Chiswick. This branch follows the usual winning formula: cool and cosy decor, 25 wines by the glass from small producers, and a shop to take away from. It also does 'Shop price Mondays' — like BYO without the corkage fee.

18 Devonshire Road, W4 2HD, vinoteca.co.uk/chiswick

Putting wine at the heart of the meal, this East Dulwich joint is the perfect restaurant to get totally toasted. There's a focus on natural wines and you can drink their house wine straight from the tank. If you need a reason to stay for the food, chef Michael Hazelwood used to cook at Soif and Greenman and Frenchhorn... enough said.

36-38 Lordship Lane, SE22 8HJ, toastdulwich.co.uk

The 10 Cases Cave à Vin

The 10 Cases bistro opened in 2011 and the wine list — constantly changing — was the selling point. Now it's opened a Cave à Vin next door where you can drink in or take out, accompanying your wine with little bites of charcuterie and cheese. It does a wonderfully light but vibrant 1997 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa that's a pleasure to drink with anything or nothing.

16 Endell Street, WC2H 9BD, 10cases.co.uk/cave-a-vin

A seriously stylish space in Hackney which heralded the new breed of London wine bar. Husband and wife team Michael and Charlotte have curated a cracking selection by the glass, including some special top bottles. The staff are lovely and now they're doing little plates of delicious food in addition to their addictive grilled cheese sandwiches and charcuterie plates. It's dangerous, in a good way.
