Don't know your Burgundy from your Bollinger?

Even if you do, there's always more to learn about the wide world of wine, so we recommend raising a glass with those in the know and expand your horizons by a vineyard or two.

These are the wine tastings you need to sip and spit (or not spit) your way through in the capital.

Sager + Wilde

Sit back and relax with these east London wine doyennes, where informal tastings mean you only pay for what you order. There's no sit-down-and-listen talk - instead you're encouraged to taste and ask questions to experts on hand.

Berry Bros & Rudd

The acclaimed wine merchant holds regular wine tastings to suit all interests. From introductory level sessions to specialised regional explorations, their tastings can be found accompanied by lunch, dinner or afternoon tea.

Winemakers Dinners at Fenchurch

Meet the makers at these sky-high evening events, complete with food and views as good as the booze. Renowned winemakers from across the globe jet in to host these nights, showing off their wares alongside expertly divined food pairings.

28º–50º

These wine-focused restaurants from the Michelin-starred Texture group not only put on tastings but quizzes too. Test your tastebuds in their blind tastings, with the winning team going home with a magnum of wine chosen by Master Sommelier Clement Robert.

15-17 Marylebone Lane, W1 and 17-19 Maddox Street, W1, 2850.co.uk

Hedonism Wines

This Mayfair wine shop has been hitting headlines for its most recent project, a much-lauded restaurant collaboration with chef Ollie Dabbous. It may be tricky to get a table at Hide, but no bookings are required for Hedonism’s regular drop-in wine tastings. If you're more into cocktails, try the excellent Hide Below bar downstairs too.
