There are fights, and then there are fights.

When the world waited for Floyd Mayweather Jr to fight Manny Pacquiao – a match of backward steps and disappointing clinches – commentators, pundits and men down the pub became as overexcited as schoolchildren. “Forget the Rumble in the Jungle and don't even mention Tyson v Holyfield” I wrote at the time, talking of $300 million and a vicious grudge match. The hype was everything. It's why we all watched.

Yet still, was the internet ever as feverish as it is now, waiting for ‘Money’ Mayweather to risk his unblemished 49 - 0 record against Conor McGregor? McGregor, a man who’s never boxed professionally in the ring, who has losses on his cards and who seems to have won this gig through hype from the Kanye West school of promo? Somehow, though, what first appeared to be perhaps the greatest mismatch of all time is beginning to look more even.

McGregor’s boundless confidence is selling tickets in the same way Floyd’s sly shyness is – a trait he has never shown before. McGregor is bigger, heavier, with a longer reach: Mayweather is two years retired. This likely makes no difference, but isn't it fun to think it might? Whatever happens, it will be a spectacle, and one with the power to change the way the world sees combat sport: boxing’s reputation is on the line. In other words, it’s a must-see.

The fight takes place in Vegas this Saturday August 26, which means by the time we see it in the UK, it’ll be between 4am and 5am on the morning of Sunday August 27. Those pulling an all-nighter can stay up through Saturday night to watch the undercard fights; the event has a few to justify the $99.95 pay-per-view cost for American fight fans. In the UK, it’ll cost significantly less: those with Sky Sports Box Office can book up for £19.95, though there’s a £5 surcharge to book up on the day over the phone. Alternatively, it can be streamed for similar money, or listened to for free on BBC Radio 5 live. A full list of ways to watch the fight can be found on this page.

Still; boxing has never been about sitting quietly by yourself watching the screen. It’s about being out with a roaring crowd, collectively flinching at every punch, weighing in on the leg wobbles, backing your man. Below is a list of places screening the match across London. All boast large screens and many have projectors. Check the ticket links for details of entry – some start at around 11pm or midnight while others aren’t opening their doors till 3.30am. More importantly, enjoy the fight. However it goes, we'll never see anything quite like it again for a very, very long time.
