The second batch of tickets for this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks go on sale on Friday December 2 at midday and all 23,000 of them are expected to be snapped up fast.

The first batch of 100,000, on sale in October, sold out on the day.

As with last year, and despite Sadiq Khan's previous condemnation of the charge, tickets will cost £10. The event is not-for-profit and the charge includes VAT and postage.

Ticketholders will be given entry to the prime viewing area on the south bank – close to the display’s focal points of the London Eye and Big Ben. There will be food and drink stalls, too.

How to get tickets

Tickets can only be bought from midday here.

When buying, you can choose which zone to stand in. There are five – blue, red, white, green and pink – which cover different areas along the south bank.

Each are explained here. Beware no-one is allowed to cross nearby bridges in the hours surrounding the event, both before and afterward.

Individuals can buy up to four tickets per person, and you'll need to take ID with you on the night to prove you and the name on the ticket match up – it's an attempt to stop touts.

You can, however, buy tickets as a gift for someone else – instructions are on the website.

What happens on the night?

Entrance is from 8pm for most zones. A DJ will play from 9pm all evening, until the countdown just before midnight.

The fireworks will last around 12 minutes, and then the DJ will play again.

Think of it as a very busy, outdoor party.

Other things to know

Though it's ticketed, and therefore numbers are limited, the event is always extremely busy and most who attend are usually in very merry spirits. Consequently, the event is billed as being unsuitable for children and for over 16s only.

No pets are allowed.
