In a surprise move, singing duo Reggie N Bollie beat out crowd favourites Bekln Mile for a spot in this year’s X Factor live shows.

The pair will join Filippino quartet 4th Impact and six-piece Alien Uncovered in the next round after performing for judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rather Be chanteuse Jess Glynne in Rome.

Bekln Mile had been backed by Cheryl’s fellow judges Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw, but didn’t do enough to get through despite being rated by Glynne as “special”.

4th Impact were the first to go through, after appealing to Cheryl live on stage at Wembley Arena that they were singing not just for their place in the final twelve, but “for our lives”.

Second to go through was six-piece Alien Uncovered, who appealed to Cheryl for a chance to represent people who’d been “ostracised”.

“There’s never been a contestant like us on the X Factor ever… we’ve proved to you that we perform well under pressure”, they told Cheryl.

Reggie N Bollie impressed with their rendition of the Isley Brothers’ Twist and Shout and, explaining her choices, Cheryl said that she picked the pair to provide “excitement and fun – I can only do so much with a choir”.

New Kings Order battled against band member Cardan’s sore throat to deliver a rendition of N*Sync’s This I Promise You, though Cheryl had told The Sun that she wasn’t particularly impressed by their excuses.

"I've sang through blocked noses, I've vomited during a quick costume change and gone back out - it happens.”
