ITV might be saying goodbye to one of their most beloved mystery shows in Broadchurch, but one of their other detective series shows no signs of slowing down.

Vera is back for Series 7, bringing four brand new investigations for fans to tune in to.

Brenda Blethyn returns in the title role as the inspector introduced in Ann Cleeves’ novels.

The first new episode finds DCI Stanhope looking into the death of a young wildlife ranger whose body is discovered on a remote island.

Another even required the 71 year-old actress to stand on the edge of a multi-storey building – with Blethyn opting to do her own stunts.

“That was really me,” she said. “It was the fifth floor or possible higher.

“Every safety precaution was observed, and if someone was required to approach the edge their ankles were tethered and at the other end of the rope was a stunt man ready to leap into action should the unthinkable happen.

“Good job as it was a sheer drop. Fortunately I’m perfectly all right with heights. In fact I didn’t want the chain on.”

Seven series in, fans know what they’re getting here – but they’ll surely be pleased with this new crop of whodunits.
