University Challenge favourites Eric Monkman and Bobby Seagull have landed their own radio show after becoming cult heroes.

The breakout stars of the last series of the BBC quiz show will present their very own Radio 4 programme, Monkman and Seagull's Polymathic Adventure, as of August 21.

According to the BBC, the new show will explore whether being highly intelligent is actually a useful quality, with guest appearances by the likes of Stephen Fry.

‘Monkmania’ swept the nation earlier this year when the 29-year-old Canadian captain of Wolfson College, Cambridge first appeared on the programme.

His impressive intellect and amusing facial expressions made him an immediate fan favourite and a hit on social media.

Seagull, who captained Emmanuel College, Cambridge, was also an instant hit with viewers, thanks to his palpable enthusiasm.

Despite being captains of rival teams while on the show, Monkman and Seagull have now formed a firm friendship.

The pair have posted a series of pictures of themselves together during trips out in Cambridge, including Monkman’s graduation ceremony.

“Sorry, I lied. How could I have forgotten to mention this guy? Briefly rivals, always friends,” Monkman recently wrote on Twitter.
