Hollywood actor Tom Hanks joined Graham Norton on his talk show in the latest episode – but you might do a double take once you see him.

Hanks was sporting a surprising new look, with short grey hair and a matching grey moustache.

Don’t worry though – the 59 year-old isn’t keeping the style for good. His unusual image is for his latest film Miracle on the Hudson, directed by Clint Eastwood.

Hanks play Chesley ‘Sulley’ Sullenberger in the film – a true story about the American airline pilot who successfully landed a plane on the Hudson river in an emergency and managed to keep all of his passengers safe.

Speaking to Norton about the ‘tache and grey hair, Hanks said: “I was in a restaurant the other day and two people stopped by the table.

“The first said, ‘Mr. Hanks, have you coloured your hair for a role?’ and I said, ‘Yes, yes I have.’ And another woman said, “Mr. Hanks, have you stopped colouring your hair for a role?’ And I thought, ‘get her out of here!’”

Hanks also confirmed that he is currently working on Toy Story 4, and praised his Bridge of Spies co-star Mark Rylance, the celebrated stage actor, as “magnificent”.

Also appearing on Norton’s show was Peter Capaldi, who teased a “sad, gripping, and very strange” departure for his Doctor Who companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman, as well as Duran Duran who performed live in the studio.
