Three-piece boy band 5AM impressed the judges on this week’s X Factor – but it turns out one of them has already had a music career.

Kieran Alleyne, who auditioned alongside fellow singers Nathan Lewis and Jordan Lee as a trio, has formerly released music as a solo artist.

The 21 year-old brought out a five-track solo EP Breaking Good in 2015 along with a lead single Comfortable, which has almost 500,000 views on YouTube.

His 2014 single Runnin’ Low has over 1.5 million YouTube views.

In an interview with Notion, Alleyne said: "I’m actually signed to Artistry Entertainment, which is headed up by Max Gousse, who was Beyonce’s A&R and has been involved in projects like B2K, YG and Ty Dollar.

"It is licensed by Virgin EMI for the UK. We are all working hard to open the right doors and get the right looks at radio. There is plenty more to come."

The singer has also appeared on stage, starring in the West End production of Michael Jackson musical Thriller when he was younger, playing the King of Pop in the Jackon 5 era.

While The X Factor is largely associated with unknown and undiscovered singers, it is not against the rules for professionals to apply.

A representative told The Sun: "Anyone can apply for The X Factor whether they are professional or amateur, irrespective of their past experience and all contestants are auditioned on merit."

5AM made it through to Boot Camp after the judges praised their rendition of Drake’s hit single One Dance in an episode aired on Saturday September 10.

Evening Standard has contacted an X Factor representative for comment.
