The Voice UK 2019: Five must-see auditions from episode four including a teenage singer and a big band performer

Natasha Sporn26 January 2019

The Voice UK continued this evening with another batch of superb talent, desperate to get that all-important turn.

From those singing as a hobby to those doing gigs with a band, a whole range of musical geniuses were waiting to get on stage and sing their heart out.

At the beginning of the episode, will.i.am provided a helpful head count – he and Olly Murs had four on their team while Jennifer Hudson and Sir Tom Jones had five.

Here are our five must-see auditions from episode four….

Callum Butterworth

The Yorkshire-based 17-year-old went into his audition saying that it would be a “proud moment” whatever the outcome.

But, thankfully, his “pound moment” turned to “positive memory” as he wowed the judges with his mature version of Shawn Mendes’ Mercy.

It took until the real high notes for Murs to slam down on his red button and swivel his chair around, filling the fifth spot on Team Olly.

Stefan Mahendra

The London-born cheeky chappy, who plays in his own band Brown Sugar, pit Hudson against Murs in the battle for the next round.

But Will was more interested in the band, railing against them for not getting themselves on social media to make a name for themselves. And, in a first for the talent show, the band then performed for the audience – who were already in love with Stefan anyway.

After they lent their silky smooth vocals to Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, Stefan picked Murs. He may or may not have been swayed by the promise of opening for him….

Ilianna

The 21-year-old’s unique voice earned her a spot on Team Will, after a booming rendition of Location by Khalid.

Will bounced around in his chair before breaking into a standing ovation and telling the Purley girl that he could “hear the quality” in her voice and praised her for adding “dynamics” to the song.

Craig Forsyth

Craig, 28, chose a bold and brave song for his audition – opting for The Impossible Dream by Andy Williams.

But the Scottish singer, who admitted he had been held back by nerves in the past, put his worries aside and lost himself in the big song.

His reward? A spot on the team of the one and only Hudson.

Roger Samuels

The last part was dedicated to doting father Roger, from London, and his Team Tom-winning audition.

The 43-year-old, spurred on by his kids, caused an argument between Hudson and Sir Tom as they fought for his hand in Voice matrimony after he belted out Leona Lewis’ evocative Footprints in the Sand.

And he was soon joined on stage by his beautiful family – and singing coach – to make his all-important choice to go with the Welsh legend.
