Netflix has released a first look at Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in the third series of The Crown.

The actor will take over from Doctor Who star Matt Smith as the Queen’s husband in the third series of the royal hit.

Menzies was confirmed to star alongside Olivia Colman as Her Majesty earlier this year.

But now the streaming giant has given fans their first glimpse of the actor's royal makeover.

The Game of Thrones actor appears in full regalia, with war medals and a blue sash, complete with his hair slicked back.

Menzies will appear in the upcoming series, which will see a brand new cast, including Helena Bonham Carter, after jumping forward in time.

The 44-year-old has taken over the mantel from Claire Foy, who picked up a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her portrayal.

Colman will play the role of the monarch for the next two series of the popular show.

The Crown returns to Netflix in 2019.
