The winner of The Bachelor UK has reportedly been leaked by one of the show’s contestants.

The Daily Star reports that Tonique Campbell, one of 17 women vying for the affections of personal trainer Alex Marks on the Channel 5 show, revealed the eventual result of the contest to partygoers on a night out in London.

“Tonique was out in Soho last week and started openly telling people who won the show,” a source told the paper.

“She didn’t seem to care who could hear her.”

The unfortunate news came shortly before the first episode of the competition aired last night, marking the third UK edition of the long-running US television franchise.

“This leak is hugely embarrassing for Channel 5,” a further source told the Star.

“With Big Brother out of the picture The Bachelor UK was their big programme and has been pushed loads on social media.

“For the winner of the show to have leaked before the first episode has even aired is disastrous.”

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Channel 5 for comment.

Last night’s episode saw two of the 17 hopefuls leave the show before getting a chance to meet 31-year-old Marks.

Host Mark Wright revealed that the contestants would have to impress one another with a minute-long monologue, before voting on which two women least deserved to continue in the competition.

Later in the episode, two more participants were eliminated in the series’ first rose ceremony, which saw Marks bestow flowers on the women he wished to remain in the competition.

Bachelor host Wright recently revealed that he has quit his presenting gig on US TV show Extra to return to live in the UK and pursue projects on this side of the Atlantic.

"It just feels like the right time to come back to the UK and live here with my wife and family," he told The Sun in February.

The Bachelor UK continues tonight at 10.15pm on Channel 5
