He might have been the most pleasant person in The Apprentice this year - but that didn’t stop JD O’Brien getting the boot from Lord Sugar.

The 37 year-old beachwear company owner, who even Sugar described as “a nice guy”, struggled in the latest task which involved launching a crowdfunding campaign.

Despite preaching a positive attitude as project manager of his team and owning up to his mistakes in the boardroom, O’Brien couldn’t save himself.

“I’m not throwing in the towel, Lord Sugar,” he explained.

“The one thing I do do, if I’ve made a mistake I will hold my hand up. I’m not going to sit here and let anyone else take the blame.

“I do things for the right reasons, I do things because I believe in them. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve held my hand up for them.”

While Lord Sugar usually commends participants when they admit to slipping up on tasks, he decided not to keep JD around.

“I can’t go into business with someone who makes mistakes, can I?” Sugar argued.

“It’s not difficult for me to consider that you are responsible for the failure of this task JD, and all you have done today is admit your mistakes, and it’s something that I can’t ignore. You’re fired.”

Rebecca Jeffrey made a narrow escape after promising to improve her performance in the series and take on the project manager role, while fiery Dillon St. Paul argued that he was the wrong person to have been brought into the boardroom.

The next episode of the Apprentice is set to bring a fan-favourite task where each team is given a list of nine items to buy at the lowest price possible.
