Some of the biggest names and the best storylines have been honoured at the British Soap Awards.

Stars of the small screen worked the red carpet at the glitzy event where shows including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Doctors battled it out for the top prizes.

It was a big year for soap, making for tough competition, from Kylie Platt's death on the Corrie cobbles to Ashley Thomas' heartbreaking dementia storyline in Emmerdale. EastEnders killed off sisters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell and Hollyoaks witnessed Jade Albright say goodbye to Alfie Nightingale.

Soap favourites Kym Marsh, Adam Woodyatt, Lacey Turner and Duncan James were on hand at Manchester’s Lowry Theatre to celebrate, as well as Ore Oduba and Steps’ Faye Tozer and Lee Latchford-Evans.

Here's everything you need to know about the British Soap Awards:

When is it on TV?

The British Soap Awards will air on ITV tonight at 8pm.

The annual awards bash was scheduled to be broadcast live on June 3, but they were moved to avoid clashing with Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester tribute concert.

Who is hosting?

The soap awards wouldn’t be the same without Phillip Schofield, and thankfully he returned as host for this year’s ceremony.

The This Morning favourite fronted the event and welcomed guest stars to present the coveted gongs.
