Apprentice candidate Scott Saunders left the BBC1 show in turmoil after he sensationally threw in the towel.

The Sun on Sunday has revealed the 27-year-old left Lord Sugar and his aides gobsmacked when he quit in anger.

A furious Lord Sugar said he was glad to see him go, telling him: “Good. You’re doing me a massive favour. I didn’t want you anyway.”

Saunders reportedly stormed out of the boardroom after Lord Sugar blasted his "useless" perfomance.

He is the first contestant to quit the show in a rage, with sources close to the senior account manager revealing Lord Sugar pushed him "too far".

One told the paper: “Lord Sugar was absolutely ruthless. He tore apart everything that Scott had done from start to finish and called him a waste of space.

“He did everything he could to make him look totally inept, idiotic and useless as a businessman.

“He kept saying that there was no point in him being there, that he had made stupid decisions and that he had brought nothing to the task.

“He even said that Scott’s performance had been the worst ever seen on the show.

“Scott tried hard to defend himself but they were not having any of it. They just carried on, hit after hit.”

An Apprentice source added to the Sun on Sunday that Saunders' shocked exit "caused a real drama" at the time of filming, as bosses were forced to change plans to avoid compromising the rest of the show.

Saunders, from Hertfordshire, had been on the winning team five times, and had previously impressed Lord Sugar.

However, he had previously caused a stir when he came to blows with fellow candidate Brett Butler Smythe over a TV remote.

The Apprentice airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
