Saoirse Ronan has revealed she managed to fly under the radar at a screening of latest film Lady Bird.

The actress explained that despite receiving an Oscar nomination for her role, cinema-goers failed to recognise her when she went to an afternoon showing with her mum.

In an interview on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “My mam is very proud of me and I wanted her to see the film as part of a real audience so we went to an afternoon performance in LA.

“I thought it would be sold out and warned her to keep her head down so we weren’t recognised.”

She continued: “When we got in there, there were six other people… all on their phones! No one was interested in us at all!”

The 23-year-old also chatted about how she had prepared for the coming of age film, telling Norton and the other guests: “I watched a lot of Saved by the Bell and Sabrina the Teenage Witch!”

Elsewhere on the show Will & Grace stars Debra Messing and Eric McCormack joked about never winning a Golden Globe despite being nominated 29 times.

"We’re the biggest losers!” joked McCormack, while Messing quipped: “Nobody has lost more than us!”

Also on the show’s red sofa will be comedian Rob Beckett and star of The Greatest Showman, Keala Settle.

The Graham Norton Show airs Friday, February 9 at 10.35pm on BBC One.
