Pop music fans were given a nostalgic treat when former S Club 7 star Hannah Spearitt made her debut on the latest episode of EastEnders.

The former 1990s pop princess won rave reviews from viewers as she made her soap debut as feisty Kandice on Thursday night’s show.

While some EastEnders fans seemed confused to see the S Clubber on their screens, others were delighted at the surprise blast from the past.

“Shocked and surprised to see Hannah from S Club as Karen’s sister. What alternative universe are we in? #eastenders,” one viewer wrote on Twitter.

“I knew I recognised that face... Hannah From S Club is in EASTENDERS,” another posted.

One excited viewer wrote: “Omg I just saw Hannah from S Club 7 on EE. Haven’t seen her for years so what a pleasant surprise! Ain’t no party like an s club partyyyyyyy 🎉#eastenders #hannahspearritt #sclub7 @hannahspearritt.”

Discerning EastEnders viewers were quick to praise Spearitt’s debut, with some dubbing the new character “brilliant”.

“@hannahspearritt as new character Kandice in #Eastenders - She’s going to be brilliant! #aintnopartylikeasclubparty,” wrote one viewer.

“Kandice is brilliant. “She wouldn’t know a great idea if it smacked her in the face and sorted her bra straps” LOVE IT #EastEnders,” posted another.

Kandice arrived on the square to save sister Karen from debt collectors during Thursday’s episode, and is due to remain on the soap for a ‘short stint’.

"It's awesome to have EastEnders on my CV and to be in the Square and all that stuff. It's so surreal to be in the Square,” Spearitt told The Mirror.

“It will be interesting to see how Kandice pans out as she doesn't take any prisoners. She's totally outspoken and abrasive and rubs people up the wrong way so she's bound to cause drama in the Square which will be good fun.”
