Can I get an amen up in here? RuPaul’s Drag Race is finally airing on TV in the UK, and it’s starting with one of the show’s best seasons.

Thanks to truTV the cult show, which has previously only been available on Netflix, now has a UK home on the airwaves starting with Season 4.

RuPaul’s Drag Race pitches a group of aspiring drag queens – some professional, some amateur – into a competition to be crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar. Each episode bring a mini-challenge, a main task, as well as a runway fashion show which aims to display each competing queen’s charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent - we’ll let you figure out that acronym for yourself. That involves singing, acting, reading (taking the mick out of other drag queens), and creating fierce and fishy (convincingly female) haute couture looks.

Oh - and don't forget the 'Lip Sync For Your Life' round every week that sees the bottom two contestants let loose on pop anthems, tearing up the stage, their costumes, and often their wigs too, as they vie to stay in the competition.

Like a hybrid of all the most addictive reality shows - think a version of America’s Next Top Model that really lets its freak flag fly – Drag Race combines moments of inconceivable bitchiness with a heart-warming ethos of openness and acceptance that makes for addictive viewing. This is the beginning of the rest of your life (as a RuPaul’s Drag Race fan).

Here are three drag queens from Season 4 that we recommend you keep an eye out for.

Latrice Royale

Who is Latrice Royale? She says it best herself: “Large and in charge. Chunky yet funky.” Like all the best drag queens, Latrice absolutely owns every inch of herself, and works her huge personality into every area of her character. She has catchphrases galore (“five g’s please: good god, get a grip girl” and “eat it!” are particular highlights), and always composes herself with grace, power, and knowingness. A true queen.

Sharon Needles

It takes a lot to stand out in RuPaul’s Drag Race where every single character is larger than life. But Sharon Needles make an impression straight away, with her pin-thin legs and penchant for extreme gothic looks – her post-apocalyptic runway outfit in the first week is gruesomely gorgeous. Despite her initial status as an outsider, Sharon forms a bond with her fellow queens throughout the series and brings a fresh new form of drag into the limelight.

Chad Michaels

No prizes for guessing who Chad Michaels impersonates in drag – yes, she’s a dead ringer for Cher. Just wait for the ‘Snatch Game’ episode (the challenge that comes around every season, with each queen dressing up as a celebrity to play a version of classic American game-show Match Game), where she dons several Cher wigs through the evening. There’s more to her than that though – she displays a huge versatile range of looks and styles through the series, and often feels like the calm at the centre of the Drag Race insanity happening all around.
