Poldark returned to BBC One with births and deaths – but despite the action, fans were left disappointed by the absence of a topless Aidan Turner.

The actor, who plays Ross Poldark in the Cornish drama, has left viewers hot under the collar in previous series with his topless scything and mining.

But he left many disappointed on Sunday night when he spent the whole episode fully clothed.

One viewer tweeted: “That was a full 60 minutes without Ross taking his shirt off. Mugged.”

Others begged for a hint of flesh with one joking that they were “dreaming of topless thatching” as Poldark was seen working on a roof.

Turner recently revealed that his character won't be seen topless in series three.

Speaking about his famous torso he told The Sun: “Am I keeping my clothes on? I think the clothes stay on this year. Maybe there’s some topless sleeping.

“I swear to God I can’t remember the clothes come on and off.”

Poldark galloped back onto screens with a cliff-top rescue as the character saved his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth (Heida Reed) when she lost control of her horse.

Elizabeth later gave birth, and kicked off an identity debate over whether or not Poldark is the child's real father.

Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) also revealed that she is expecting again.
