Piers Morgan ‘breaks the law’ on Good Morning Britain by ripping up new £5 note live on air

The presenter called those that complained ‘crashing little bores’

Piers Morgan has technically broken the law on live TV, ‘defacing currency’ by ripping up the new £5 note on Good Morning Britain.

The host was presenting a segment on the new plastic note on the ITV breakfast show, proving that it wasn’t quite so indestructible.

While he struggled to rip the money with his hands, Morgan was able to tear it in two with his teeth.

“You can’t rip this, I mean it is actually quite impressive,” he said.

“It’s like plastic Monopoly money, I would say. But like I did earlier, you can do it with your teeth. That’s magic!”

The presenter seemed aware that he was flouting the law, but dismissed his critics.

“I think I’ve just broken the law – people have been tweeting saying, ‘Piers, you’re breaking the law by defacing currency’.

“You’re breaking the law by being sanctimonious crashing little bores.”

Morgan concluded his report by stating that the new note is a superior option to the former design.

“The truth is, I think it will survive a lot better, the new fiver, in your wash than the old fiver – so good luck everybody.”

The new £5 note is being rolled out from today (September 13) across the UK with an initial batch of 440 million notes.
