Considering she was only featured in the first couple of episodes, the breakout star of Netflix’s summer sci-fi hit Stranger Things was undoubtedly Barb.

The loyal friend of Nancy was – spoiler alert – unceremoniously killed off in the series to very little concern from the town of Hawkins, Indiana.

While much was made of the disappearance of young boy Will Byers, it was only Nancy who paid much attention to her best friend going missing.

But now Netflix is righting its wrongs with a special Halloween video.

A ‘news broadcast’ video with Hawkins’ own Brenda Wood has proved that someone did notice Barb’s departure after all.

The two minute film also includes other in-jokes and references to the series, with Eleven seen stealing “an unprecedented number of Eggo waffles” in CCTV footage from Bradley’s Big Buy, and a warning from Brenda to “avoid Mirkwood”.

Netflix’s series channels the spirit of Steven Spielberg and Stephen King’s classic Eighties works, following a group of kids in smalltown USA who are plunged into a supernatural mystery.

After Will Byers goes missing, his Dungeons and Dragons-loving friends set out to find him – encountering a government conspiracy, and a strange girl with super powers.

The show proved a huge hit when it debuted in July on the streaming service, with a nine-episode second series currently in production for a 2017 release.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, executive producer Shawn Levy confirmed that the new episodes would continue with the characters from Season 1.

"Episode 8 [of Series 1] satisfies everything you’d want in giving answers, but leaves certain huge questions open to rumination and curiosity," he said.

"We built the show so that we can pivot right into a second adventure."
