Mel Giedroyc has thrown her support behind the new Great British Bake Off lineup, deeming it "absolutely as it should be".

Giedroyc and Sue Perkins stepped down from their role as presenters on the popular baking show ahead of its move from the BBC to Channel 4. They were replaced by Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding while judge Mary Berry was replaced Prue Leith.

Speaking about the new line-up, Giedroyc told the Standard: "I'll be intrigued, of course I'm excited. I think it will be something completely different. I think the line-up is bold and new and it's absolutely as it should be. Noel Fielding is a friend of mine and I love what he does."

Giedroyc hinted that she may have encouraged the Mighty Boosh comedian to take on the challenge, adding: "Who knows what was said."

Giedroyc has been exploring her 'panto' roots, inspired by Christmas visits to what is now the "Leatherhead Theatre", where she had to be hauled off stage after a crowd of children ran on.

The TV favourite co-hosted the Magic at the Musicals event at London's Royal Albert Hall last night with Cats star Ruthie Henshall.

The line-up featured musical performances from 15 different productions including, On My Own, from Les Miserables; New York, New York from classic On The Town; Wicked's memorable Defying Gravity; and Friend Like Me from Disney's Aladdin.

Giedroyc said: "I love performing in front of a live audience and just stepping out in front of ruddy Royal Albert hall is just something, I can't describe it."

"I have to remember to do up my fly and put my teeth in."

The TV personality admitted how she 'embarrassed myself so badly' in front of production Jesus Christ Superstar's Declan Bennett after talking 'at' him reflecting characteristics of a 'super fangirl'.

She said: "The main attraction was of course when he (Bennet) ripped off his shirt."

Giedroyc also presents a Magic radio show every Saturday with "ruddy genius" Andy Bush.

Speaking about the job she said: "Performing on radio is great, you roll up with no makeup in pyjamas and nobody will know."
