Mary Berry has faced new criticism over another one her ‘classic’ recipes on her BBC2 cookery show.

Viewers were left less than impressed with her take on a leek and potato pie during this week’s episode of Mary Berry Everyday, with many branding it a ‘casserole with a lid’.

A number of cookery fans decided to vent their frustration on Twitter, refusing to accept that Berry has actually made a pie as it had no base.

“That's a pastry lid - not a pie. You're going to give Twitter a meltdown. Disgraceful. #maryberryeveryday,” wrote one outraged viewer.

“Now look here Mary Berry. I worship and adore you. But you've just made a casserole with a pastry lid. That is not a pie. Sort yourself out,” wrote another.

Fan Matt Flye even prayed that the cooking icon wasn’t going to let him down, writing ahead of the show: “Mary says she's making a pie. That had better not be a casserole with a lid Mary, I'm watching you. #piesnotlies #maryberryeveryday.”

“Oh Mary you didn't...A PIE WITHOUT A BASE IS A LIE #maryberryeveryday,” he posted after the episode.

Berry's take on spaghetti bolognese was also met with critism when she made it on the show earlier this month.

The former Bake Off judge opted to put white wine and double cream in her sauce and used pork mince instead of beef.

Alex Preston said on Twitter: "Shocked and appalled about Mary Berry adding double cream to her bolognese."

Another user added: “Just watched a cooking programme where Mary Berry put white wine in bolognese. Turned it off.”
