Love Island viewers have been left ‘gutted’ after ‘muggy’ Mike and his partner Tyla were booted out of the villa before facing the lie-detector task.

Fans had called for Mike to face the challenge over rumours that he slept with ex-contestant Jess following his first departure from the show.

Once he arrived back in the villa, he was grilled by the other contestants about the story. Initially he repeated the denials he had made off-air, but then appeared to add fuel to the fire in a conversation with Marcel.

He told the ex-Blazin’ Squad star: “Listen, I’m telling you now yeah. She’d be with me, trust me. She’s gotta do what she’s gotta do though innit.”

His comments sparked a flurry of tweets from viewers calling for producers to put him through the lie-detector challenge that caused so much drama during last year’s series.

However, the 24-year-old will avoid having his story subjected to any more scrutiny on the show after Monday’s episode saw him dumped from the island following a public popularity vote.

He and partner Tyla were the couple who received the least votes and had to say their goodbyes to the other contestants.

In the preview for Tuesday’s show it was revealed that the couples would be facing the lie-detector test task in the next episode, leaving fans ‘gutted’ and ‘fuming’ that Mike just missed out on the challenge.

While others suggested that Jess, who is still with partner from the show Dom, would be relieved:

The lie-detector test is known for being one of the ITV2’s dating show’s more dramatic tasks. So much so that a finalist from the 2016 series, Olivia Buckland, took to Twitter to warn that the results aren’t always accurate.

This time last year her partner Alex Bowen, was told that every single one of his answers to questions including “Do you see a future with Olivia?” and “Do you find any girl in the villa more attractive than Olivia? were lies”

The pair managed to recover from the bump in the road and are now engaged.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
