Megan Barton Hanson hit out at “jarring” Joe Garratt after he told Lucie Donlan it was “time to get close to the girls” instead of chatting to Tommy Fury.

The former Love Island contestant criticised Joe, saying she could “see right through him”, after his intense chat with Lucie about her friendship with the others in the villa left her in tears.

Barton Hanson told fans that she “felt so bad” for Lucie as she watched the uncomfortable exchange, suggesting Joe would dump her after the next recoupling.

“The whole thing with Tommy…it is just strange,” Joe had told Lucie. “You walked off with him and you were with him for like an hour.”

When Lucie explained she gets on with him more than the other girls, the sandwich man told her that he “wouldn’t be cool with it on the outside world” despite Lucie’s assurance that there “wasn’t a romantic thing there”.

“I don’t really see anybody else doing the same thing,” Joe continued. “That’s them [the girls] respecting the person they’re with and understand these kind of things would p*** off the person they’re with.”

He went on to chastise Lucie some more, saying that he was developing “doubts” over things and “wasn’t happy” with her closeness to Tommy.

Writing on her Instagram stories, Barton Hanson said: “Urgh, Joe is so jarring. 'It’s time to be friends with the girls' feel so bad for her! Can see right through him. His [sic] going to long Lucie and try it with Molly or who is ever [sic] left over after the recoupling!”

She was joined by a legion of fans who also criticised Joe, with some even labelling him as “abusive” and accusing him of “gaslighting”.

One wrote: “I need to see Joe removed for his controlling behaviour towards Lucie. It’s borderline Gaslighting and is abusive. Don’t just ‘arrange’ they go home please make a stand against this. It needs to be talked about !!! #loveisland.”

Another said: “It’s hard to watch how manipulative and controlling Joe is trying to be over Lucie #loveisland.”

“I actually feel sorry for Lucie, as if Joe is basically telling her she can’t have male friends? #loveisland,” commented somebody else.

Joe stormed around the villa feeling sorry for himself, bemoaning his new “single” status, having told Lucie that she was the one he wanted to be with for the duration of the process.
