Love Island fans could have two series to obsess over after producer Richard Cowles revealed that an LGBTQ version is under consideration.

Cowles, who works on the BAFTA-winning show , told press at the ceremony that the makers of the ITV2 hit are “open” to having a same-sex couples version.

He said: “We've had bisexual people in the show before. It's a dating show and what makes that quite difficult is you need everyone to fancy everyone, so it's quite hard to get people who are gay and heterosexual in the same place, because simply enough, they don't fancy each other.

“I think we'd have to have a dedicated show for that. We're open to everything. We'd always try to include everyone. Absolutely, we'd consider two series a year.”

The successful show – which enjoyed high ratings last summer – beat Celebrity Hunted, The Real Full Monty and Old People’s Home for Four Year Olds to the prestigious gong.

“It’s been so brilliant watching this show grown over the last three years. A huge thank you to all the Islanders for giving so much of themselves.”

Love Island is expected to return to ITV2 next month.
