Love Island 2017 episode one: Who's been coupled up?

Last night’s show saw the new arrivals pick their partners

Love Island has kicked off - and the five boys and girls wasted no time coupling up.

The girls were the first to arrive at the new villa, but before they’d even had a chance to check out the brand new hot tub, presenter Caroline Flack introduced them to the boys.

First up was ex-Blazin’ Squad member Marcel Somerville, who was disappointed when none of the girls stepped forward to indicate they fancied him.

Despite their lack of interest, Somerville still had to pick someone to pair up with and he selected Amber Davies from Wales.

Next in was Sam Gowland from Newcastle, who proved more popular than Somerville, with two of the girls Camilla Thurlowe and Chloe Crowhurst stepping forward. Gowland opted for Thurlowe leaving Crowhurst up for grabs.

Groundsworker Harley Judge arrived next and caught Davies’ eye, which meant a rejected Somerville was forced to sit on the subs bench (the sun-loungers).

Before long Essex boy Kem Cetinay came though the villa doors, and despite Crowhurst confessing she’d briefly dated his best friend, the pair partnered up.

The last boy was revealed to be Mancunian Dom Lever and student Montana Brown stepped forward for the first time, while Motorsport Grid Girl Olivia Attwood chose to save Somerville from the subs bench.

But, just when the boys and girls thought they’d got their couples sorted, Flack threw them a curveball and in walked glamour model Jessica Shears.

The presenter explained that Shears wouldn’t be pairing up with anyone just yet, but would have her pick of potential partners the next day.

With the coupling up over, it was time for the new islanders to get to know each other.

Some housemates discovered a shared history as two of the girls, Brown and Shears, realised that they’d both dated the same guy at the same time and discussed the drama in a candid chat.

But with Brown realising she must have been the ‘side-chick’, Shears privately admitted in the Beach Hut that she was less than impressed and suggested she might choose to steal Brown’s man.

Later in the programme she did just that, despite admitting she preferred Somerville’s personality, and picked Lever, leaving Brown without a partner and signalling the start of series three’s first feud.

Love Island airs on ITV2 at 9pm tonight.
