Kimberley Walsh is set to guest star in Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge.

The broadcaster has confirmed that the former Girls Aloud star will play Claire Butterworth, the feisty ex-wife of Steve – played by Paul Nicholls – and mother to their son Zak.

Nicknamed the “sly, home-wrecking netball teacher” by headteacher Mandy, played by former EastEnders star Jo Joyner, Claire had an agreement to stay away from the fictional Yorkshire school while Mandy and Steve were together.

With Claire back on the scene, it remains to be seen as to whether the fiery character will split the pair for good, one again.

However, with the two having split after Mandy’s affair, Claire can’t wait to get back to the mill town and get close to the father of her child once again…upsetting Mandy in the process.

Of her new role, Walsh said: “It was so much fun appearing as Claire in Ackley Bridge, it’s such a fantastic show with a brilliant cast so it was an honour to be part of it!

“Claire is quite different to other characters I’ve played in the past. She is sassy and strong and comes to blows a few times with Mandy which was really fun to play. “

The 36-year-old added: “It was great fun working with Jo Joyner and Paul Nicholls on this storyline.”

Ackley Bridge, dubbed the new Waterloo Road, first hit screens last year with Sunetra Sarker, Adil Ray and Amy Leigh-Hickman also it its cast.

The second series, for which a brand new trailer has just been released, is coming soon on Channel 4.
