Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed she wanted to be a police officer but gave up on the idea of law enforcement after stumbling into acting “by accident”.

The American star, whose films include Freaky Friday, admitted she didn’t think she would follow in the footsteps of her famous parents Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, instead wanting a career as a cop.

But Hollywood had other plans as Curtis found herself on the big screen during her time at school.

“I didn't think I would be an actor,” she told The Graham Norton Show.

“I was a very bad student but I wanted to be a police officer because I thought I would be good at it. While studying to be a cop I became an actor by accident.”

Curtis was on the show to chat about reprising her role as Laurie Strode in Halloween, 40 years after the original film was released.

Chatting about the franchise’s return, she said: “The film connects the stories between 1978 and 2018.

“Laurie has gone the way trauma takes you without good mental health support! It is incredibly intense and scary.”

Other stars on the show include Rowan Atkinson, Gary Barlow and Jeff Goldblum.

The Graham Norton Show airs Friday October 5 at 10.35pm on BBC One.
