Viewers of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here have hit out at the latest Bushtucker Trial over 'cruelty' to animals.

Actor Adam Thomas and TV presenter Martin Roberts took up the latest unenviable challenge, names Pick ‘n’ Crits.

The pair had to hold live animals in their mouths – including a giant water spider, giant burrowing cockroach, and an Australian crustacean called a yabby – for 30 seconds at a time to earn food for the camp.

“We have received 30 complaints about I’m a Celebrity, which aired on ITV yesterday," an Ofcom spokesperson told the Evening Standard. "We will assess these complaints, before deciding whether to investigate or not.”

Some viewers also hit out at the task on Twitter, with one saying it was “cruel and distressing for the animals”.

One argued that the Bushtucker Trials in the show that don’t involve the use of live animals are “just as good” as the ones that do.

Adam and Martin later had to pop fish eyeballs in their mouths to fill a shotglass, and then drink the contents in order to earn the full number of stars in the trial.

The TV presenter and model lost out in the public vote after spending 16 days on the show.

Sharing her thoughts on Roberts, one of this year’s most divisive contestants, she said: “He’s a strange guy. He’s got this sort of childlike innocence. He just kind of steams into conversations.

“It’s part of his charm I guess. He’s just a funny character. He has got shot down a lot of times by Danny [Baker] and Larry [Lamb].”
