Holly Willoughby has opened up about how she overcame stereotypes around being blonde when she first started her career as a TV presenter.

During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Willoughby said she felt people had a ‘massive judgement’ on her, partly due to her hair colour.

“I think when I started out I did [face criticism] because a lot of people look at the blonde hair and this and that and the other and have a massive judgement on you,” she told Ross.

She added: “When I first started in telly, I had a lot of negative comments about myself but then I suddenly realised I couldn’t be anyone else and actually the bits where I mess up or I’m just me seem to be the things that work.”

Willoughby also discussed her relationship with her Good Morning and Dancing on Ice co-host Phillip Schofield.

“I love that man,” she said.

“We met on Dancing on Ice, rink-side would you believe. I’d obviously watched him on the telly lots. I was a bit scared when I first met him but that changed very quickly when I realised he was basically me in the male form.”

Also appearing on The Jonathan Ross show was singer Demi Lovato, who chatted to host Ross about the differences between British and American men.

When asked if she’d dated British men, Lovato responded: “I wouldn’t say dated… I’ve hung out with [them]. It’s really funny because when they dirty talk it’s really proper.”

“Grammatically correct and proper. Like ‘Would you like me to do this?’ and you’re like, ‘Yes!’”

The other guests who will be appearing on Friday’s episode of The Jonathan Ross show are actor Martin Clunes, X Factor winner James Arthur and mouth artist Henry Fraser.

The Jonathan Ross show airs on Saturday, September 30 at 10pm on ITV.
