Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has "ruined" the show for fans after accidentally tweeting the name of this year's winner hours before tonight's grand final.

Leith, who replaced Mary Berry as a judge after the show moved to Channel 4, mistakenly sent out the tweet before quickly deleting it.

Fans of the baking show slammed the presenter and restaurateur for the mishap, saying she had ‘ruined’ the final for them.

One wrote: “Oh my word. Obviously a mistake but @PrueLeith has just ruined tonight’s #gbbo finale for me and whoever else saw her tweet that’s just been deleted. Nightmare!"

Another posted: "@PrueLeith did you really just Tweet the winner of Bake Off??? Well, that's kind of ruined tonight's excitement then hasn't it!"

Others saw the funny side and mocked the mistake, with one even commenting: "Going as Prue Leith's Twitter fail for Halloween."

Leith later expressed regret, telling fans: "I'm in too much of a state to talk about it."

Contestants Steven Carter-Bailey, Sophie Faldo and Kate Lyon will go head-to-head to be crowned winner of the competition

Steven today revealed that he is preparing for his life to change following tonight's final, saying he does not think his life “will ever be normal again”.

Despite the pressure of life in the tent, he said he would “drop everything to do this all over again”.

He said: “Without a doubt I would walk back into that tent tomorrow and start over.”

Sophie was more apprehensive about putting herself through the process for a second time saying she would only “if I had to”.

Talking about the final, Kate said entering the tent for the last time felt like a win in itself.

We have decided against revealing the name of the winner in this piece, so as not to spoil the final episode for viewers.

Standard Online has contacted representatives of Channel 4 for comment.
