The Great British Bake Off is generally known as one of the most gentle competition shows on TV.

But it seems thing might get a little intense in the tent next week – at least according to contestant Candice Brown.

The amateur baker has hinted at a potential bust-up between her and beloved judge Mary Berry on Twitter.

Brown responded to an angry viewer, who tweeted: “I’d love to see Mary slap that smug look off Candice’s face #GBBO”

In response, she said: “If you watch next week, she actually does!”

Could things get a bit hairy as the remaining bakers attempt pastry week, where the prospect of a dreaded soggy bottom looms the largest?

The hint comes in a week that has already proved tumultuous for the Bake Off.

It was announced that the show will be leaving the BBC at the end of the current series, and will be moving over to Channel 4 for 2017.

The move has already cost the show its presenters, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, who announced they would be stepping down due to the channel change.

"We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home,” the said in a joint statement.

"We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.

"The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 [million] at its peak.

"We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.

"We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success."

It is currently unknown whether Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry will remain on the Bake Off when it moves to Channel 4.
