Game of Thrones fans can finally sleep easy with a first look at the new season.

HBO has kept details under lock and key ahead of the eighth and final series, but a handful of teaser pictures which hint at who might be involved in the remaining six episodes have been released.

The images tease that the final season will pick up where the Westeros characters left off nearly two years ago, with one image showing Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) still in the North.

Lena Headey will also reprise her role as the scheming queen Cersei Lannister and is pictured near to the Iron Throne, decked out in full armour.

Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, looks like she may still be Wardeness of the North, despite Jon Snow being crowned king. But she looks far from impressed at the turn of events as she shoots daggers into the distance.

Peter Dinklage's Lord Tyrion Lannister looks worse for wear as he displays a concerned expression on a balcony in Winterfell following his cryptic meeting with Cersei Lannister.

Other images confirm favourites Maisie Williams will return to the role of Arya Stark and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister.

Stars from the show have been struggling to cope with the drama coming to an end.

Speaking on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show last month, he said: “[I’m] maybe not happy, but very satisfied.”

Harington added: “It’s like when you finish a book, you’re not happy it’s over are you? You don’t finish a good book and say ‘I’m happy I finished that’.

“But you have this grief that it’s over, and it’s the exact same with nine years doing this show. No matter how it ended, or how it does end, there’s always this bit of you that’s like ‘oh’, there’s this loss around it.”
