Game of Thrones writers have been accused of 'hitting new lows' after Brienne of Tarth was “shamed” for being a virgin.

Some viewers felt uneasy after Brienne, played by Gwendoline Christie, was questioned on her sexuality during a drunken game of Truth with Tyrion and Jamie Lannister (Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Podrick (Daniel Portman) as they celebrated in the aftermath of the Battle of Winterfell.

Tyrion asked Brienne if she is a virgin, to which she walked away. Jamie followed her and the pair later had sex.

Viewers berated David Benioff and DB Weiss for the scene and accused them of using Christie’s character as a “pawn for Jaime’s character development”.

One viewer tweeted: “My hot take is that Brienne of Tarth does not need to f***...anyone? It's OK if a person is a virgin? Leave her alone? #GoT.”

Another wrote: “I honestly was annoyed by that whole thing. And Brianna being embarrassed like that by Tyrion. And being used as a pawn for Jaimes character development.”

A third posted: “If Brienne and Jaime have sex simply because Tyrion mocks her for being a virgin i will kill d&d.”

The scene comes weeks after Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) lost her virginity to Gendry (Joe Dempsie) ahead of the Battle which saw he kill the Night King.

Williams praised Benioff and Weiss for allowing her to have control over how naked her character would be.

“I kept myself pretty private," she told Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so…"

Game of Thrones is on Sky Atlantic, tonight at 9pm. It is also available on NOW TV.
