First Dates scratchcard 'win': Georgia left 'upset' by prank as viewers brand her date's trick 'weird'

Viewers said that they would be "fuming" if it had happened to them

Fans of Channel 4’s First Dates were left confused after one participant tricked her date into believing that she had won £100,000 on a scratch card.

Things got off to an inauspicious start for Georgia and her prospective love interest Georga as they realised that they had already met – because the former had already dated the latter’s niece.

“She kind of dated my niece,” Georga explained to the show’s bartender Merlin, before clarifying: “My sister’s 40.”

“I didn’t date her, we just had a thing,” her date then explained.

Awkward: The pair initially discovered that they had an unexpected link

Despite their unexpected link, the pair seemed to be hitting it off, prompting Georga to present Georgia with a scratch card as a present.

The beauty therapist was then shocked to discover that she appeared to have won £100,000 on the card, as her date told her that she could now afford to buy “three Ranger Rovers” with her winnings.

However, the stunt proved too good to be true and Georga finally came clean about the prank as their date was drawing to a close, telling her: “I need to talk to you about something. It’s fake.”

Georgia was left gobsmacked at the revelation, asking if her date was “f****** joking” and telling her: “I’m genuinely upset.”

Viewers seemed to be on her side, describing the joke as “weird” and suggesting that they would have reacted with anger if it had happened to them.

“Hahaha a fake scratch card! As if this date wasn’t awkward enough! Funny, eh?!!” one Twitter user wrote.

“A fake scratch card for 100,000k is no joke – would be fuming,” another said.

“Knew it was too good to be true. Fake scratch card. Although she’s mean for telling her at the end. Should have said it straight away!” a third fan said.

Another viewer who suggested that things weren’t “going to end well for these two,” was eventually proven wrong, however, as the show’s end credits revealed that the pair had decided to continue dating and “feel like they’ve won the jackpot.”

First Dates airs on Channel 4 at 9pm on Tuesdays.
