Emily Blunt tells Graham Norton: 'I asked my husband to sack another actress so I could star in A Quiet Place'

Emily Blunt has shared the unusual way in which she got her role in new film, A Quiet Place.

The actress revealed that she asked her husband John Kransinski, who directs and stars in the film, to sack another actress so that she could play Evelyn Abbott.

Promoting the film alongside Kransinki on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “I actually didn’t want to do it to begin with. I’d just had our second baby and I’d done Mary Poppins so was in a state of joy.

“But when I read the script, I really wanted to do it. John had already approached another actress – a good friend of mine – so I told him he had to ring her and sack her! Luckily we are still friends.”

Blunt also opened up about her fear of living up to the original Marry Poppins film, which starred Julie Andrews.

“When I was offered the role it felt quite terrifying to take on such an iconic role and one played by the iconic Julie Andrews,” she commented.

“It felt thrilling and scary at the same time and such a big thing to take on but I’ve done my own version.”

Kransinski chatted about being a superfan of his wife’s film The Devil Wears Prada.

“I’ve probably seen The Devil Wears Prada, give or take, around 72 times!” he told host Norton.

Also appearing on Norton's red sofa this week are Tom Holland and Kylie Minogue.

The Graham Norton show airs Fridays at 10.35pm on BBC One.
