Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant revealed that his children are old enough to enjoy his Doctor Who episodes – but his daughter prefers Matt Smith’s take on the sci-fi hero.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross show, Tennant said that his younger two children have just got into the show in recent years.

“I did not force this upon them!” he joked. “My wife and I met on Doctor Who and they saw a picture, they got wind of that. So they wanted to see it and they watched the episode we met on, and then they developed this passion for it.

“So it’s now on in our house all the time, which is embarrassing when people come round because it looks like there’s a moving shrine to myself in the corner of the living room at all times.”

However, with his final episodes as the Time Lord being particularly emotional, he revealed that his daughter Olive was upset about his departure from the show – but quickly found a new favourite.

“She got really upset, really upset! You know, quite moved! Part of me was thinking, ‘Aw [she] doesn’t want to see her daddy moving on.’ Four hours later she was still crying, at which point it felt like bad parenting, I have to be honest…” he said. “Now of course yesterday she found Matt Smith and he’s her favourite. They’re fickle.”

The actor also announced that he had recently welcomed a fourth child, a baby girl, with his partner.

“We’re quite pleased. We managed to [keep that] under the radar, which is how we like to do it on the whole,” he said.

Also on Ross’ show this week was Cristiano Ronaldo, speaking about his new documentary film, and model-turned-actress Agyness Dean. Performing on the show was singer James Morrison.
